Making a giant crochet octopus

Making a giant crochet octopus

After being sent the viral Instagram reel of this giant octopus by numerous friends I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I’m not a big plushie maker but something about this pattern was just majestic and I knew I had to give it a go.

The pattern is by @humblechildco and can be purchased through their Etsy store it cost me around $28 NZD. I choose to use the Bernat blanket yarn which if you live in New Zealand is available through Flock of Knitters. The main colour was Almond and the underneath of the tentacles was colour taupe. I need one ball of taupe and two of almond to complete the pattern.

For someone that is not used to using a big crochet hook and blanket yarn I found doing the bobble stitch’s on the tentacles really hard on my hands so this part of the make was pretty slow going for me just doing a hour a night. The main body part was much quicker and I did this part of the octopus in a couple of hours.

The pattern called for 18mm safety eyes but I like the look of a bigger eye so went with 24mm. It was a really easy pattern to follow, well written and worth the money spent on it. Have you made the Octopus yet?
