More about Jasmine
In 2015 at the age of 33 I was diagnosed with breast cancer followed by a stage 4 metastatic diagnosis in 2017. Various treatments over the years resulted in a lot of hospital stays and recovery in bed days. After watching far too much TV, one day decided to teach myself crochet by watching YouTube tutorials.
My first attempts were terrible. I had no idea how to crochet a straight edge or the difference between yarn weights and hook sizes. But there was no one I knew to show me how it was done. My great grandmother could crochet but it had become a lost art in our family.
Even though my crochet items were sometimes unusable I discovered that the process of crocheting relaxed my mind through this very stressful period of my life. I now have the knowledge to design and make my own crochet products and am teaching my love of crochet to others.
Crochet for Calm
Crochet can be a form of therapy for people suffering from illness, anxiety or stress. The gentle rhythm of hook and yarn and the single repetitive movements help clear and calm your mind. As the brain starts just concentrating on the stitches you will find a release of tension and the stresses of the day will melt away.
